What Are the Pros and Cons of Owning a MacBook

MacBooks are not the go-to computers for many people as they prefer Windows or are not that into laptops. However, there is no denying that Apple continues to improve their manufacturing and puts out new and improved Macs consistently when you consider recent years. As such, more and more people are starting to reconsider their train of thought and give MacBooks a chance.

Having said that, you do not want to spend money on something you are still not certain about. Before you buy a MacBook, consider these pros and cons that the device has.

Pros and Cons of Owning a MacBook

Pros

#1 – Retina Display

One of the biggest benefits of modern Mac models is the Retina Display. You will hardly find a better monitor or screen that offers quality as high as MacBooks.

Whether you are doing work that revolves heavily around visuals or simply like to spend time watching videos or looking through other media, a higher pixel density that Retina Display offers will come in handy.

#2 – Security

Security is another big advantage. As a MacBook user, you are less likely to encounter cybersecurity threats on your device.

First of all, macOS is not as popular as Windows, meaning that hackers are less likely to target it. Also, consistent operating system updates with security upgrades help deal with the problem.

#3 – User Interface

The UI is not necessarily something that you will appreciate right off the bat, particularly if you have been using Windows before.

However, many people that switch to macOS say that they really appreciate the user interface, particularly how intuitive it is.

#4 – Battery Life

Compared to other laptops, MacBooks have a better overall battery lifespan expectancy. Integrated software that you find on the computer is not as demanding resource-wise as it is on its counterparts with other operating systems.

Of course, it is important to note that you need to maintain the battery in good condition and not overcharge the laptop. Otherwise, this particular advantage will become obsolete.

#5 – Sturdiness, Longevity, and Reliability

Thanks to how it is manufactured, a MacBook is known for its sturdiness. The material choice also ensures that the device will not break down from small falls and simple scratches. Overall, reliability is one of the best things about Macs.

#6 – Elegant Look

The design of a MacBook is not usually a priority for many, but there are still plenty of people who like to focus on the looks and even brag to others about it. Well, as far as laptops go, you will hardly find one that stands out as much as a MacBook when it comes to looks.

#7 – Seamless Performance

The nature of the macOS makes it easier to keep the computer’s performance in good shape. There is less clutter to deal with, you are less likely to deal with cybersecurity threats, keeping icons on the Dock eliminates the desktop clutter, and so on.

Cons of MacBook

Cons

#1 – Price

One of the biggest issues of purchasing a MacBook is pretty clear—the price. Not everyone can afford to purchase a laptop that costs as much as a custom-built PC.

What you pay for a MacBook might be better spent on a custom-built PC because of how much better the hardware is for the latter.

Sure, one could argue that you can save money by getting a second-hand Mac, but a used computer comes with its own set of problems.

#2 – Storage Capacity

Storage capacity also stands out as a significant problem for MacBooks. If you want to purchase a model with a decent drive, you can expect to pay more, but that is not all.

The problem with storage will also stem from failing to maintain the disk in good condition. If you are not careful with what files you keep on the drive, you will run out of space eventually, which will lead to worse performance. Moreover, there are things like scratch disks to worry about, as described in various sources about using a MacBook.

#3 – Hardware Upgrades

It is no secret that laptops as a whole are not that flexible when it comes to hardware upgrades. MacBooks, though, are even more limited. Most models come with integrated hardware with no room for replacing or upgrading it.

#4 – Software Support

Despite the fact that exclusivity for operating systems is not as prominent these days, you may still struggle to find certain software for macOS. It comes down to how popular Windows is and that not all developers are willing to accommodate macOS users.

#5 – Accessory Compatibility

Similar to software, you may find that some accessories are not compatible with the MacBook. Apple is pushing for its fans to purchase exclusive mouses, external keyboards, headphones, and other accessories that are tailor-made for Macs.
